Siphoning the spirits of rock, funk, R&B, jazz, and pop through a kaleidoscope of unpredictable and virtuosic improvisation, Boston-based seven-piece Ripe has won over legions of fans the old-fashioned way—by compelling crowds night after night to get up on their feet, dance, and bask in the inimitable and indefinable chemistry that has separated and singled out Ripe since day one. Ripe consists of seven musical soulmates who all met at Berklee College of Music in 2011.
The Kansas City-based indie rock band Hembree have shared a new single, the loose-limbed and vibrant “Reach Out,” which underscores the humanity of Hembree’s genre-averse pop-rock style. The band’s Isaac Flynn shares, “It’s about how society treats the poor, and how people are too embarrassed and neglected to ask for help. You lose touch with reality, which could happen to anyone.” The eye-popping animated video for “Reach Out” was directed and illustrated by Carpenter Collective with animation by Igor + Valentine.

Music motivates at the most primal level.
You instinctually hum a tune in order to get pumped up in the morning, for fuel on the treadmill, to soundtrack your commute, or as the pre-game to a big night out. As much as he treasures his roles as a guitarist, composer, and producer, Cory Wong fashions himself “a hype man,” first and foremost. Living up to this classification, he slings a Stratocaster and hurls “dad jokes” from the stage with the same panache, poise, and power.
